Product Description

Sony Vaio NW20 review - a fine design and high quality build.

This, the latest in the Sony Vaio NW20 range, bears a visual resemblance to the more expensive NW11 series, however underneath there are a series of differences, most notably in terms of the capability of the hardware. That said, the high build quality that Sony is known for is still there.

This computer possesses a Pentium T4300 processor at its heart and an Intel GMA 4500M graphics card running the visual aspects. You won’t get heavyweight performance from this combination; the processor is similar to that in other laptops at this price range, however the cache is only 1MB, and the graphics card is about as basic as a laptop graphics card gets these days.

Although the system will seriously struggle with recently released 3D games such as Call of Duty 4, older games shouldn’t cause too much of a problem. The dual-core setup of the processor will more than happily handle multiple office and internet applications simultaneously, and the graphics card is capable of streaming 1080p online video; however, the dull screen isn’t likely to enhance your viewing experience.

The keyboard is well designed with all the keys where you would expect them to be; the keys only require a light touch in order to register an action. The touchpad buttons are similar in this respect, and the touchpad itself is responsive without being twitchy.

With regard to networking, the computer has high-spec GB Ethernet and 802.11n WiFi for both wired and wireless connections, however lacks a Bluetooth connection for mobile phone purposes. The battery lasts four hours between charges which is more than adequate at this price range.

Overall, the Sony looks the part and is fine for on-the-move work and web browsing, however more demanding applications such as 3D games are beyond its means. At this price, the Samsung R520 is a better buy.

Hey I just wanted to let you know, I actually like the writing on your site. But I am utilising Chromium on a machine running version 8.x of Ubuntu and the look and feel aren’t quite correct. Not a strong deal, I can still fundamentally read the articles and explore for info, but just wanted to inform you about that. The navigation bar is kind of hard to use with the config I’m running. Keep up the great work!

  2. I was reading something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your linear perspective on it is diametrically contradicted to what I read to begin with. I am still contemplating over the diverse points of view, but I’m leaning to a great extent toward yours. And regardless, that’s what is so super about contemporary democracy and the marketplace of thoughts online.

  3. Hey, nice post. I stumbled upon this blog, but I will definitely bookmark it. Have a great day.
