Samsung R620 review In terms of appearance, the Samsung R620 appears to set a different tone to the Samsung R520. The latter has the look and feel of a more expensive laptop, while the R620 does not stand out in a room. The black finish is glossy; other than that, the machine is not particularly decorative. Some may see this as a little plain, whereas others may appreciate the fact it doesn’t try to look like a prop from a science fiction movie. Considering the inner workings, the hardware gives reasonable performance at this price range, and will handle office and internet applications without issue, however 3D games and other intensive applications may be beyond its means. That said, it can handle both 720p and 1080p content; the bright screen and loud speakers will enhance your viewing experience. It even has a Blu-ray player for those movie buffs out there… In terms of connectivity, the Samsung R620 has 802.11n WiFi, an eSATA port for external hard disks, an SD card reader for digital photos and an ExpressCard slot. It also has an HDMI output for external audiovisual devices. The keyboard, unlike the Samsung R520, fills the entire width of the case, giving enough space for a conventional alphanumeric keyboard without having to use small keys. The keys themselves have a light action and responsive feedback. The touchpad supports multitouch functions such as zoom, however can be a little small. Summary With the great build value we have come to expect from Samsung and that lovely Blu-ray drive, the Samsung R620 is better value than most machines at this price.
