Apple MacBook review This Apple MacBook has a 13” (32.5 cm) screen, which is substantially smaller than the Windows laptops you can get at this price – however, the LED backlit screen gives detail, brightness and colour clarity no Windows laptop can get near. The LEDs mean that the screen can achieve this unparalleled brightness without being a huge drain on the battery. The hardware inside the MacBook weighs in at 2.26 GHz and 2GB of RAM – this might not sound much at this price level; indeed you can get better numbers from Windows machines. However, since Windows tends to be much more of a processor and RAM hog than the Mac OS it is more efficient with what’s under the bonnet. Connectivity is provided by 802.11n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth, with USB slots; however, the lack of an SD card reader at this price may disappoint some. For storage a 250GB hard drive is offered, which should be enough for all your audiovisual needs. The keyboard and chassis, as ever with modern Apple outputs, are sleek and minimalist, however the glossy white finish can create unwanted reflections. As for the keyboard itself all the keys are a decent size, however there’s no keypad for those number crunchers. The keyboard doesn’t use all the space that is available though. The touchpad is a joy to use; the clickable glass pad is similar to pads on other Apple products such as the iPhone and is much better than anything on a Windows laptop. Overall, the Apple MacBook is a very capable laptop; the only major issue with it is the price, which may put some off or steer them towards a seemingly equally capable but much cheaper Windows-based effort. However, although the specs may be equal, the MacBook is often more equal than the Windows machines. There is a reason you will generally find it near the top of the best sellers.
