Acer Aspire 5739 review - a great all-rounder The Acer Aspire 5739 mostly follows previous Acer outputs in terms of design, however the layout is less crowded than other laptops and allows for easier use. This is due to the Aspire’s keyboard using the entire width of the case. The keys themselves need only a light touch however feedback can be lacking. The 15.6in (39cm) screen has warm colours, however remember that the glossy finish typical of Acer laptops is present here. The graphics card is a Nvidia GT 240M – powerful enough to handle all but the very latest hardware hogging games; HD video is no problem. You can even connect another audiovisual system through its HDMI and S/PDIF outputs – however for most purposes the Aspire’s screen and speakers are sufficient. Virtual surround sound, albeit not perfectly aligned, means that it can even be reasonably used as a DVD player for small in-house audiences, however a lack of Blu-ray capability is a snag in this respect. With respect to networking the Aspire has most things you would expect, however lacks Bluetooth for phone-computer transfers. Overall, the Aspire 5739 will do most things, only falling short when asked to handle very demanding applications. For the money, it’s a fine buy, however if you are a movie buff the Samsung R620 may be a better alternative for its Blu-ray player. |
