Acer Aspire 5532 review - great value for money

The keyboard on the Acer Aspire 5532 is full size, with the keys themselves providing positive feedback. The use of the entire width of the case also allows for a sizeable numeric pad on the side. As for the touchpad, using it at first may need some getting used to due to it being a bit sensitive.

This laptop uses a dual core processor and possesses 4GB of RAM; this is fine for running office and internet applications through Windows 7, however massive performance drains like intensive video editing are likely to be too much for this machine. The 5532 comes with WiFi connectivity and two USB ports for networking and a 0.3 mp webcam.

Although the 15.6 in (39cm) screen is large and colourful, the speakers aren’t that great; the lack of HDMI output means that you cannot connect HD external video devices, however there is a VGA output for those not that concerned about HD. The headphone jack means you can plug in your own speakers to bypass the speaker issue, and with this in mind the Aspire 5532 makes for a reasonable movie machine on the go. The two hour battery life is reasonable, however isn’t brilliant given that more expensive machines such as Samsung’s R520 offer twice this.

Overall, the Acer Aspire 5532 makes for a decent entry level model; although it lacks features available on more expensive machines such as HDMI outputs and a Blu-ray player, it has all the basics covered. It does offer very good value for money and would be powerful enough to suit most users.
